The 4 prompts

1

Pause · 0 to 20 seconds

You’re already in it. That’s fine. Stop where you are and let the next few seconds be about nothing.

2

Notice · 20 to 45 seconds

Where is it sitting? Your chest? Your jaw? Your hands? Your stomach? Remember, you’re only finding it, not fixing it.

3

Reset · 45 to 70 seconds

Breathe out for longer than you breathe in. Deep breaths from your belly. Twice or three times is more than enough.

4

Decide · 70 to 90 seconds

Now choose the next sentence. One sentence. And you can say it slowly.

Pause · Notice · Reset · Decide

Questions people ask

Do I need the 90-Second Pause first?

Not every time. When the pressure is high, breathe first with the 90-Second Pause, then come back here. When you can already think, start here.

Is this the 90-second rule about how long an emotion lasts?

No. That is a separate idea from someone else’s work, and this tool makes no claim about how long an emotion lasts. The 90-Second Decide is a timing tool. It gives you 90 seconds to choose your next sentence.

Is 90 seconds long enough to make a difference?

It’s not long enough to settle everything, and it does not try to. It puts you back in the moment while the moment is still open, so you choose your next sentence yourself.

What does it offer, and what does it not?

Earlier recognition, earlier interruption, a faster return and a shared language for the moment. Nothing beyond those four. It makes no promise about how you will feel.

Where does the 90-Second Decide come from?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is this the 90-second rule about how long an emotion lasts?

No. That is a separate idea from someone else's work, and this tool makes no claim about how long an emotion lasts. The 90-Second Pause is a timing tool. It gives you 90 seconds of your own before you answer.

Is it a breathing exercise?

No. Breathing is 1 move out of 4, and it is not the one doing the most work. The other three are letting 20 seconds be about nothing, merely noticing where the pressure is sitting, and choosing your next sentence.

What does it offer and what does it not?

Earlier recognition, earlier interruption, a faster Return, and a shared language for the moment.

Not calm on demand, and nothing beyond those four.

90 seconds is not long enough to fix anything.

That is exactly why it works: it puts you back in the moment while the moment is still available and open for you to decide you next best sentence.
